"Audio Record Wizard" Conjures Up Easy Recording
Affordable software solution for recording streaming audio
Audio Record Wizard, version 3.1, is a slick recording tool that will fit most audiophile's needs and for under $25.00. The interface is has an “XP” feel and is colorful and intuitive. The main controls let you open a file, record a new one, stop or play. The information for the file you are working with is readily displayed in the upper-right hand corner. A progress bar also moves while files play back.

Several smaller buttons provide more options: An “S” button for scheduling recordings, an “RL” button that displays the record list and an “Options” button which opens up a whole pane full of preferences.

The user can choose which recording device will provide the source audio, the recording level and sound quality. There is a recording slider control to adjust the input of your audio source. And although it does display a graphical representation of an audio signal, you can't judge from that just how soft or loud your audio really is. This means you'll have to make a test recording or two to find the right level to avoid distortion or too-low of a signal input.

Audio Record Wizard has a Voice Activation System which let's the user record long segments of audio from either a microphone or any other source. You can adjust the sensitivity, choose to skip silent passages, or stop the recording after a certain amount of seconds. This option is especially when you're recording streaming audio and net congestion temporarily stops the stream. Instead of having a big blank spot in your recording, Audio Record Wizard will just pause and wait for the signal to reappear. Of course, you may still want to do an edit on your file but at least you won't have gaping holes in it.

Audio Record Wizard allows you to also enable a file length limitation by time or kilobytes which is handy if you're dealing with limited hard-drive space. Plus, you can choose to record your files in .wav or .mp3 formats.

Overall, Audio Record Wizard is a great utility and quite easy to use. If you're looking to record music or any other audio, this program is worth looking at. You can get a free trial from Nowsmart.com
